Vulnerable and Groomed

"My son started his journey at a primary school in Bridlington, he has Asperger's and ADHD, he could not cope in main stream school, so I took him out was home educating him. Someone from the SEND team rang me to ask did I want him in special school, I said yes, it was done, two days before he was due to start they pulled the plug saying it had been a mistake, I had to fight to get him the 6 months without schooling.

They then changed their minds he went, they could not educate him as they said he was too bright, I looked for school out of the area, who specialise in Autism, found the one which would be good for him, to then have to fight them again. I employed an SEN consultant to get the help needed as again he was out of education for 6 months, one to one was offered at 3 hours 3 times a week but not enough

Up to date, my vulnerable son has been groomed online. The police were involved and told the 0-25 team to get here and do something as it's their duty but they did not come, only a phone call saying they will pass it on, nobody came again, the second time, Police were not happy, put in a complaint , still not been dealt with.

Over the years I have made formal complaints to hopefully get the service to do its job, I am in this for life they pop in and talk the talk and do nothing. Every EHCP my son has had has been 6 months late, never the legal duty.

I have stopped attending any meeting now as it is all show. They are rubbish at their jobs and the whole system needs sorting from the top to the bottom, they make our lives harder and do not understand the daily struggles or they would not make it so hard to get the help we need.

Fortunately I found a SEN group called Empowerment for Parent/Carers in East Riding. This lady helped me get the right support in time to get the help my son needed and made contact with many professionals and came to my home to support with the complaint when the council sent someone to do my complaint - which was upheld .

I do not use the local offer because of how many staff are leaving and I have has many EHCOs on my case when they leave no one tells you who to contact you are left on your own. The SEN manager previously been rude which discourages you to make contact .

I receive the brief information from the group and that’s the only reason why my son has had some good outcomes, it’s not down to the council.

I shared my story with councillors in which I don’t think I had a response"
